Halfday is a fasting timer for people who want to eat in a window, not join a program. Two taps to start. A ring that fills, with fasting stages marked on it, ketosis included. Forgiving streaks that survive one busy day. A weight trend line. No ads, no quiz funnel, no AI coach. Timer, stages, streaks and weight log are free forever. Plus ($29.99/yr) adds full history, journaling, custom durations and CSV export. Android today. iOS is in review.

I started eating in a window last year and went looking for a timer. What I found was a category that had turned on its own users. Zero moved to a $69.99/yr freemium model in 2024 and pulled things people had been using for free; the threads about it still haven't stopped. One of the biggest names in the category carries a 4.7 on the app stores and a "Bad" rating on Trustpilot, where the reviews are almost entirely about billing. Nobody was just building a good timer.
So before writing any code I went through store reviews and Reddit threads and wrote down every complaint I could find. Halfday is what that list asked for.
What's in it today:
• Count-up timer with editable start and stop. It's derived from a timestamp, so force-quitting the app or crossing a timezone doesn't lose your fast.
• Fasting stages marked on the ring, ketosis included, with a plain-language card explaining what's actually happening. Free — that's specifically what Zero moved behind Plus.
• Forgiving streaks with automatic freezes. One bad Tuesday shouldn't erase six weeks.
• Weight log with a trend line. History and stats for your last 30 days.
• Presets for 16:8, 18:6 and 20:4. Pick one or ignore them; nothing nags you.
• Light and dark. No ads, no ad SDKs, no third-party analytics.
Halfday Plus is $29.99/yr or $3.99/mo, shown in your local currency on the paywall. It buys depth, not access: history beyond 30 days, notes on each fast, custom durations from 12 to 72 hours, theme lock, CSV export. The daily loop never moves behind the paywall, and that pledge is written inside the app, not just in a launch post.
Four things I'd rather tell you than have you find out:
• It's Android only right now. The iOS build is submitted and sitting in Apple's review queue.
• Sign-in is required (Google). I know forced accounts are one of the things people hate about this category. I did it so a reinstall doesn't lose your history — but it's the decision I'm least settled on, so if you'd want a local-only mode, say so.
• No widget and no watch app yet. Both are next. I didn't want to list features that don't exist.
• It went live on Play a few days ago with essentially zero users. This is day one, not a growth story.
Deliberately not in it: food logging, an AI coach, recipes, a community feed, a quiz funnel, dynamic pricing.
What I'd like from you: try to break the timer, and tell me where it feels wrong. I'm also genuinely curious whether "free forever, in writing" reads as credible or as marketing to you — the whole design leans on it being believable.
Love how simple this is, especially the forgiveness on streaks. One thing I'd find really useful is a quick way to log how I felt during the fast, even just a tap for energy level right when I end the timer, before I forget.
