Karpathy’s HackerTube got me thinking about the datasets people mention on Hacker News. When I’m looking for data for a project, I want to know where to get it and what people have learned from using it.

I built HackerDatasets to put those pieces together. The NYC Taxi Trips page is a good place to start: you can find the official files and follow the original HN discussion. I used the January 2025 files to explore pickups by hour and taxi zone in DuckDB locally.

The English version starts with five resources: Common Crawl, OpenStreetMap, Our World in Data, World Bank Open Data, and NYC Taxi Trips. Each has an introduction, metadata, selected HN comments linked to their orginal threads, and related resources found in those discussions.

I started with Chinese version which has a larger and complete catalog. This is a small English edition site to see if you may need or like it. I would continue to expand the resourses pool the same as the Chinese version. Discussion summaries are AI-assisted, with the original comments kept alongside them.
