Hey Product Hunt — I'm Rick Quast, from El Paso, Texas. I built Glass Earth because I kept wanting one screen that showed me the planet the way it actually is right now — not a feed, not clips, the live thing.
So I built it. Glass Earth is one globe with the real world running on it:
✈️ Live flights — tap one and ride in its cockpit, with its real speed, altitude and heading
📷 69,000+ live public cameras — highways, harbours, airports, beaches
🛰️ Satellites overhead right now, plus a Look Up! panel that counts down the next ISS pass over your house
🚢 Ships moving worldwide on AIS
🌦️ Weather radar, satellite infrared and lightning on one timeline you can scrub back through
🗓️ Satellite Date Compare — swipe 30 days of real NASA imagery over any place and watch it change
📻 A radio tuner and live TV from around the world
One honest note, because I'd rather tell you than have you find it: the traffic layer is simulated and labelled "Simulated" right in the app — there's no open global live-traffic feed, and I won't fake one. Everything else is the genuine feed, with its source and age shown.
It's free, open source (MIT — it's a fork of OSIRIS, rebuilt into the thing I wanted), no account, no install. It opens on your location. Glass Earth launched publicly on Halloween; today I'm bringing it here.
Try this: open it, tap the first flight you see, and hit Ride. That's the moment it clicks.
What I want from you: honest feedback. What did you open first? What did you go looking for that wasn't there? That's the list I build from next.
See everything. Miss nothing.
— Rick
