Open Gatherly, say what you're doing, and sit in a live room with others doing something similar. No video, no profiles, no performance.

Hey PH!
We built Gatherly because meeting people online usually means profiles, bios, and performing a version of yourself. We wanted something simpler: say what you're doing right now, get dropped into a room with strangers doing something similar. No profiles, no video.
Free to use, no credit-card required.
Would love your feedback, questions, and ideas.
How does matching actually work in real time if there's no profile or pre-set interests, and what happens when two people end up in the same room doing totally different things?
@damlafmac Matching happens purely off the activity you type, right when you submit it. We pass it to an AI model that decides to add you to an existing room if it's a fit or spin up a new room with a short generic theme if nothing fits. So, the room is the shared interest. As for mismatches: shouldn't really happen by design, since you only join a room that already fits your activity (or you create a fresh one).
How does the matching actually work when you say what you're doing, is it keyword based or does it pick up on more nuanced stuff like pacing or mood?
@emirhanenetefg Great question. It's not keyword matching, we pass your activity through an AI model that groups by the nature of the activity, not exact wording. It's not picking up mood/pacing yet, just semantic similarity.
How does it actually match people into rooms, is it based on keywords or something more structured, and what happens when a room is empty?

And if you land alone you can opt to leave your room because there's a "just drop me anywhere" option that puts you straight into any room that already has people - no need to sit by yourself.
How does the matching actually work when I just drop in casually? Like, is there a room size limit or do I just get tossed in with anyone online at the same time?
@ferhat148502 When you use "just drop me anywhere," it skips the activity-matching step entirely, we pull all currently active rooms, filter to ones that already have at least one other person in them and aren't at capacity, then place you into one at random. Rooms cap at 20 people, so you won't get tossed into something huge, just a genuinely active room with room to spare.
Felt oddly calming to just drop in and work alongside strangers without the pressure of a face cam. Nice that nobody's curating a profile either, just the task at hand.
@sragaripkuacfj This is exactly the feeling we were hoping for - thank you for putting it into words so well.
Felt surprisingly calming to just say what I'm up to and have strangers quietly join. The lack of video and profiles makes it way less awkward than I expected.
@sabriyepuvg That's the exact vibe we were going for. Thanks for giving it a shot.
