Put your iPhone or iPad on a tripod and animate. FrameFold takes the picture as soon as your hands leave the frame and the scene is still, so you don’t have to touch the camera. Exposure, focus and white balance stay locked, and the film plays as a loop in the viewfinder while you shoot. Sound, green screen, titles, a printable flip book and 4K export are free. On the Mac it works with a USB document camera or an iPhone. No ads, no account, no watermark, and no data collected.

Hi, I'm Rainer from Austria. I built FrameFold for the artist Aldo Tolino, who folds printed photographs into objects and photographs them again, frame by frame.
In stop-motion you touch the camera for every frame, and every touch can move it a little. FrameFold watches the scene. When your hands leave the frame and nothing moves anymore, it takes the picture. Exposure, white balance and focus stay locked, so the film doesn't flicker.
A few more things it does:
The film plays as a loop in the viewfinder while you shoot.
An Apple Watch, the volume buttons, AirPods or a clap also work as a shutter.
Any work becomes a printable flip book as a PDF.
An existing video turns into stop-motion. FrameFold keeps only the still moments.
On the Mac it works with a USB document camera or an iPhone, with a studio workspace and an X-Sheet for mouth shapes.
"Simple" mode shows only the basics, for classrooms and kids.
Everything is free, with no subscription and no in-app purchases. There is no account, no data is collected, and it works offline. It's available in 17 languages.
I'd like to hear what you would make with it, and what got in your way.
