I absolutely adore eating, yet whenever I tried to decide “Where should we eat next?” I often found myself swayed by review scores or flashy ads. But what I truly wanted was something simpler and more genuine — the raw, honest opinion of someone who had actually taken a bite.
One day, I noticed my smartphone was overflowing with food photos I had never shared. “What if posting these could feel more casual, more meaningful?”
That question sparked the very first idea for FoodGram.
It began humbly: an app where you could choose your next meal based purely on photos. But as development continued, the concept evolved far beyond that. Connecting posts to a map made it useful for travel. Anonymous posting made sharing effortless. And gradually, FoodGram became something even more personal — a place to create your own food album.
Along the way, we discovered something important: people don’t just want a place to upload food photos. They want a place where posting means something.
A place where the act of sharing feels rewarding.
We redesigned the UI again and again, refined the posting flow, and asked friends overseas to help test it. With every iteration, FoodGram grew closer to becoming “a place where food from around the world gathers.” Before we knew it, photos from 15 countries had already been posted at launch — transforming FoodGram from my personal idea into a global, community-powered food map.
And through this journey, we realized what truly gives posting value:
That moment your photo receives a ‘like,’ and you feel someone discovered something new because of you.
The joy of filling your own food map, seeing pins appear in the places you visit — like completing a living food encyclopedia.
The comfort of having a personal food album, beautifully organized and easy to revisit, even if you clean up your camera roll.
The feeling of leaving your mark — that your post becomes part of a map built collectively by people around the world.
And most of all, that intuitive spark of “Yes, this is why I want to post.”
The moment you realize that sharing your meal isn’t just an upload — it’s a contribution.
We want FoodGram to be a place where your casual food moments carry meaning: a place to record where you’ve been, what you’ve eaten, and what you’ve loved.
A place where you can share freely, discover openly, and feel connected through something as simple and universal as a good meal.
We hope FoodGram brings even a little more joy to your eating adventures.
And we’ll keep improving it — one bite at a time.
