Meta shut down the Messenger desktop app. fMess puts your chats back in a real window on Mac, Windows and Linux: system notifications, unread badge, calls, keyboard shortcuts. About 5 MB, free and open source. It can even look like Zalo or WhatsApp.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Toan. When Meta pulled the Messenger desktop app, my chats ended up in a browser tab buried under everything else, and I kept missing messages. So I built fMess.
It's facebook.com/messages in a small native window. It uses the system webview (Tauri), so the download is about 5 MB instead of shipping another copy of Chrome. On top of that it adds what the web version doesn't give you:
real notifications from your OS, and an unread count on the dock or taskbar
voice and video calls
keyboard shortcuts
your recent chats are loaded ahead, so opening one doesn't spin
The part I had the most fun with: themes. Messenger can look like Zalo or WhatsApp. Same chats underneath, but whoever walks past your desk thinks you're on the work app 😄
It's free and MIT licensed, code's on GitHub. Mac builds are signed and notarized by Apple. The Windows build isn't signed yet, so SmartScreen will ask once.
If something breaks, or the old app did something you miss, tell me here. I read everything.
