Hi, I'm a weekend screenwriter. To improve my writing, I’ve made a desktop app that can parse a PDF script and output useful statistics and data, displayed in charts. It’s called FlickStats. In a nutshell, it provides insights such as: - Evolution over time of dialogue and action - Evolution over time of scenes, including their locations, indoor/outdoor distribution, and shooting periods - Distribution of characters, and the evolution of their actions, dialogues, and presence to identify their prominence and impact - Dialogue snippets and word clouds to spot language tics and feel the overall atmosphere of your script - Main character detection - Focus on a character with dedicated stats This app doesn’t give an opinion about your story. It’s a tool that may help you gain a better overview of your script through factual data. Also, it’s 100% offline, so your ideas are never sent to any remote server. Although PDF parsing is tricky, it will handle most scripts well. The user guide features examples from “Joker,” “1917,” “Dune,” “American Beauty,” “Severance,” and “Game of Thrones.” Because it can’t work with every script, and since I don’t have the time and resources to turn FlickStats into the best and most reliable software ever, I decided to offer it for free to the screenwriting community.
