Firestorm 2 is a bitmap editor built natively for macOS. Manipulate images with a flexible 0.1x to 7.5x canvas, precise "marching ants" selection tools, and an advanced layer-based compositing system that supports vector shapes, text, and native SF Symbols. Export your full composition in massive standard formats (PNG, HEIF, etc.), export isolated layers independently, or generate flattened/unflattened Xcode icon packages for macOS and iOS applications. Full undo/redo stacks are supported.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
We are thrilled to share Firestorm 2, a bitmap and layer editor designed natively from the ground up for macOS.
We wanted to build an image editor that feels completely at home on Mac—fluid, lightweight, and tightly integrated into a developer or designer's daily asset pipeline. Whether you're quickly cropping screenshots, compositing vector shapes with SF Symbols, or prepping production-ready assets for Xcode, Firestorm 2 handles it with absolute precision. It's not even close to What Macromedia Fireworks once was though it was always on our minds while developing Firestorms 2. It still is.
Here is a quick look at what’s inside:
・ Layer-Based Compositing: Mix image layers, vector shapes (circles, ellipses, rounded rectangles), rich typography, and native SF Symbols.
・ Deep Zoom Canvas: Navigate seamlessly from a bird's-eye 0.1x view up to 7.5x zoom for pixel-perfect detail editing.
・ Precision Selections: Use the classic "marching ants" boundary tool to select, clear, and manipulate image regions instantly.
・ Xcode Asset Engine: Instantly generate standardized icon packages for macOS or iOS apps (Universal, iPhone-only, or iPad-only) with full control over flattening the alpha channel.
・ Granular Exporting: Save your entire canvas or export individual isolated layers as independent image assets.
・ Full Undo/Redo: Every single transform, deletion, and movement is fully backed by a bulletproof native undo stack.
We would love to hear your feedback, thoughts on the asset creation workflow, or features you want to see next. Thank you!
