Finsternis tells you the honest local answer for every solar & lunar eclipse through 2050: visible from your spot or not, how much of the Sun is covered, exact local times, and the path on a real 3D globe with the shadow animated across Earth. Computed on-device from NASA data — no account, no tracking, works offline.

Hi Product Hunt 👋
I built Finsternis to answer something existing eclipse tools make weirdly hard: will I actually see this from where I'm standing, and what will it look like? Global path maps don't tell you that.
You drop an observation point anywhere, and it gives you a straight answer — visible or not, % of the Sun covered, precise local start/peak/end — plus the path on a 3D globe you can scrub through time, and a compass "Sky Finder" that points you to the Sun at the moment.
Everything is computed on your device from NASA data — no account, no tracking, no ads, fully offline (only place search needs a connection). Native iOS + Android, one-time purchase, English & German.
Timely reason to share now: a total solar eclipse crosses Iceland & Spain on Aug 12 — and the longest totality of the century hits Egypt on Aug 2 2027, already mapped in the app.
Would love your feedback — happy to go deep on the offline astronomy or the two-native-apps build. 🌘
