filex is a file manager and sharing app you run on your own server. It connects local disks, S3, SFTP, FTP, WebDAV and SMB, leaves files in place, and serves the same tree back over S3, WebDAV, SFTP and NFS. Desktop sync, Office editing in the browser, MIT.

Hi, I'm Burak, the developer of filex.
You point filex at the storage you already have (a local disk, a NAS share over SMB, an S3 bucket, SFTP, FTP or WebDAV) and get one tree with a web UI, a desktop app that keeps chosen folders synced both ways, and share links with PIN, expiry and download limits. The same tree can be reached over S3, WebDAV, SFTP, FTPS and NFSv3, with the same permissions as the web UI. Files stay in their normal format, so nothing is locked in.
A few things that are less common in this space: the explorer is published on npm as a Vue, React and web component, so you can embed it in another product. One instance can host several tenants, each with its own login providers and domain. There's also a built-in MCP server with folder-scoped API keys for AI agents. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files open in the browser with the Office editor app, which runs as WebAssembly, so no document server is needed.
Login works with OIDC or LDAP/Active Directory, and roles, audit logs and end-to-end encrypted folders are built in.
The demo needs no signup: demo.filex.sh with demo@demo.com / demo. I'd like to hear where getting started took longer than it should have.
