A star average doesn’t tell you if you’ll like a book. Fic Scout lets you rate books on characters, plot, writing, setting, pace, romance, twists, and more. Then you can find your next read based on your taste, and see what a book is actually like before you start it.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Jake.
I'm building Fic Scout, a site to help you find your next favorite fiction books. I know this isn't an AI tool like every other product on here, but hopefully this will bring some joy and adventure to your personal life.
The problem
Most book rating sites, like Goodreads, just rate books on a single number, like 4.37 stars. But that’s kinda unhelpful because everybody has different preferences. Some people like slow burners with beautiful prose, others prefer fast-paced, plot-driven stories. The 4.37 stars don’t help you know if you’ll like a book or not. I used to spend hours reading reviews on Goodreads and Reddit researching my next book to read. And while that's sometimes fun, it's often frustrating because it's hard to tell if a book is for me or not.
The solution
For over a year, I kept a spreadsheet rating every book I read on the things that actually decided whether I liked it: characters, plot, writing, pacing, twists, villains, etc. Fic Scout is that spreadsheet turned into a site anyone can use.
How it works:
Rate 3 fiction books on what matters most to you (characters, plot, writing, setting, twists, villain, romance, etc.)
We'll create a reader profile for you and suggest books we think you'll like based on your taste
Keep rating books you read to refine your profile and help us find better books for you
You can also:
Filter books based on genres and tropes to find exactly what you're looking for
Get a “scouting report” after you rate books to share on your socials
What I'd love to hear from you:
What matters most to you in a book?
How do you decide what to read next?
If you try Fic Scout, was it easy to rate books? Did you find any good recs?
Tough questions and feedback are welcome!
