I built this after reading one too many stories about a popular extension being bought and turned into adware. Chrome updates extensions silently and never tells you that the developer changed, so there's no way to notice.

Extension Guardian watches your extensions and warns you about:

• a new owner in the Chrome Web Store

• new permissions after an update

• removal from the store (usually how Google handles malware)

• extensions installed by another program

It rates each one on Access (what it can do) and Risk (whether to trust it), so your password manager isn't flagged just for needing access.

Privacy: everything stays on your device except extension IDs, which go to a small server that reads the public store page. Code is open source: https://github.com/laboskiriste/extension-guardian
