Hello, I am one of the creators and lead software engineer for Eddie AI 👷 👋

We 'launched' the first version of Eddie officially last October. We were stunned at the reception to Eddie and excited about how much this resonated with our audience. I was stunned that my code was working 😉

The first version of Eddie was quite simple. Straightforward chat UI, one file per project, Eddie transcribes it and can help you cut it up - but it was just a seedling of an idea. This 2nd launch is the culmination of so many new developments to Eddie over the last many months. ⭐ Multiple sources per project, multi-camera & podcast edits, A & B-roll logging, and new versions of the AI to help craft even better stories for rough cuts or social media. We've gone all-in on native desktop apps to make processing ultra-fast and integrate really tightly with professional workflows.

Eddie has evolved substantially, but on the team we all know that this is still JUST the beginning. I'm excited for the Product Hunt community to try out Eddie 2.0 and get your feedback.

If you have used Eddie before, try out the new Rough Cut mode in the desktop app and let us know what you think! This new UX was inspired by some great AI products like v0.dev that engender an experience of creating and iterating on a project together with an AI companion. Eddie will take you through a series of steps to create a 3-10min rough cut from your project following a customizable story framework. Soon we will allow you to cut together multiple multi-cams even! We believe this experience will be the foundation from which we build out Eddie's capabilities. I'm Robbie, the head of Content and Community at Eddie AI. Man, what a ride it was to get to this point. When we released Eddie last year, I was blown away at the response we got from the video professional community - they loved what we built, and kept asking for more. And today, we're happy to deliver a new slate of incredible tools for them to make their workflows faster than ever before.

I've been a video professional for just about the entirety of my career, so, slightly selfishly, I've been helping develop these new features because they are things i've been wanting in my own workflow since I began creating and editing video.

These new features were built by a team of video industry veterans and extremely talented AI scientists and software engineers. We’re interdisciplinary, and for good reason - one of our core principles as a team is that if we are to truly create a powerful AI assistant for video pros, it’s not going to be created by a bunch of mathematicians sitting in a basement guessing what video professionals want. It’s going to happen with creatives and scientists partnering together to create something both useful and valuable to video creators.

Our rough cut mode is a testament to that principle. We realized that a great video story doesn't just happen in a click. It's subjective - what a good story is can be entirely different between two people. So, I went back to my film school days, and thought of the core principles of storytelling I was taught in Video Production 101 - the heroes journey, the story circle, and the other frameworks that are at the base of most stories told. That created the thought - "What if Eddie created stories according to this framework"?

So, the AI team and I went heads down for about a month developing Rough Cut Mode. We pushed LLMs to the limits to be able to craft a story out of such a large amount of information. We developed what we call the "Eddie Contract", which is the story framework the creator iterates with Eddie on in text before the cut is delivered. This has brought a meaningful increase in the story quality that Eddie delivers.

Our A and B roll logging tool is also another thing i've been dreaming of as a video professional, and i'm proud to be able to bring it to the community. I can't count the amount of times I have been in the edit bay wasting time searching for a b-roll clip that is lost in a sea of C0021.MOV's, and combing through hours of interview footage to find a suitable soundbite. Now, all of that is meticulously organized in your editing software in just one click.

These features take the slog away from the edit bay. The non-creative work that has to happen before you get to the fun part of video storytelling.

We've got one goal as a team - saving video professionals time. Time is an incredibly valuable asset to our community. With this new slate of features in Eddie AI 2.0, i'm excited to see how much time we save you.

Super cool product. I can see this being a goto tool for cutting interviews. Very smart to highlight this use case in your marketing. Enriching the metadata is genius. I could see EddieAI being a good acquisition for any of the big video editing suites. Best of luck!
