DuoQi is an iOS app for playing Chess or Xiangqi with someone sitting nearby. Two iPhones discover and connect directly over peer-to-peer Wi-Fi—no account, game server, or internet connection required. Create a room, find nearby players, or join via QR code. It includes clocks, rematches, match series, local stats and replay, custom boards and pieces, plus a same-device tabletop mode.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I built DuoQi because most chess apps focus on online matchmaking, while I wanted a simple way to play with the person sitting across from me.
With DuoQi, two nearby iPhones connect directly through peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. There is no account, game server, or internet connection required. One player creates a room, and the other can discover it nearby or join by scanning a QR code.
The most challenging part was keeping the board and clocks synchronized between both devices during moves, reconnects, and rematches.
DuoQi supports both Chess and Xiangqi, along with clocks, match series, local history, replay, customizable boards and pieces, and a same-device tabletop mode.
I’d love your feedback:
• Is the two-phone setup easy to understand?
• Would you use this at a café, park, school, or around a table?
• Which game would you play first: Chess or Xiangqi?
Thank you for checking out DuoQi!
