You should be able to make a simple map without needing a desktop GIS install or an expensive enterprise account. You have a couple of KMLs or shapefiles that you want to turn into a map and share with someone or you want to do some quick spatial operations like buffering or editing or even query with SQL. With dropmaps, simply drag and drop a layer into the browser based app and its ready for use.
