I got tired of paying $50/year to hear rain on my laptop. So I built Drift, a native macOS menu bar app with 99 ambient sounds, spatial audio with AirPods, and a built-in Pomodoro timer. No subscription. No account. No internet required. What makes it different: - Mix up to 4 sounds - Spatial audio with head tracking on AirPods - Built-in Pomodoro timer - Native SwiftUI. Uses ~50MB RAM - Save unlimited presets - Works 100% offline. No cloud, no tracking, no data collection

Hey PH! 👋 I'm Biagio, the solo dev behind Drift.
Quick backstory: I spend 10+ hours a day at my Mac and I've tried every ambient sound app out there. Endel wanted $50/year. Dark Noise was $50 lifetime with no real menu bar mode. YouTube ate my battery and showed ads every 8 minutes. macOS has 6 built-in sounds that get old fast.
So I built exactly the app I wanted: native Mac, menu bar-first, real spatial audio with AirPods, and a price that doesn't feel like a hostage negotiation.
Some technical choices I'm proud of:
- Built entirely in SwiftUI + AVAudioEngine
- HRTF spatial audio rendering (not fake panning)
- Procedural variation on loops so sounds don't repeat predictably
- Under 50MB RAM footprint
Try the 8 free sounds. If you dig it, the full unlock is $14.99. Once. No subscription. No "free trial" that auto-charges.
Happy to answer anything about the tech, the business, or the sounds. Fire away!
