Downloads Butler is a small Chrome extension that sorts and renames downloads before they hit your Downloads folder. Choose folder logic, build readable filenames, create rules for repeat downloads, and rescue older files that already made a mess. Local-first, no account required, and no cloud vacation for your download history.

Hey Product Hunt 👋😸
I built Downloads Butler because my Downloads folder kept turning into the digital version of “I’ll deal with this later.”
The idea is simple: Chrome downloads should land organized from the start.
Downloads Butler can:
✅ sort downloads by group, type, website/source, or your preferred order
✅ rename files into something readable, instead of download (12).pdf
✅ create rules for repeat downloads
✅ handle one-time download choices
✅ rescue older files that already landed in the folder soup
✅ keep everything local in Chrome, with no account required
It is intentionally small. Not a giant file manager. Not a dashboard kingdom. Just a tidy little Chrome extension for one annoying job.
I’d love feedback on:
1. Is the Sorting/Renaming flow clear enough?
2. Which feature should be expanded first?
3. Did you test/like the Rescue Feature ? Did it save someone's life ?!
Thanks for checking it out.
