After our first was born, we told family and friends to skip gifts and instead send money that could be contributed to a 529. We ended up with envelopes filled with cash and a stack of checks. I love the idea of crowd-sourcing 529 contributions, allowing credit card deposits, and also ensuring that the funds ultimately end up in a 529 account. I'm looking forward to seeing if FutureAdvisor iterates on this aside from just using it as a user acquisition tool.
