Hi everyone! 👋 I’m excited to share this Photo Frame app with you! 💡 What inspired me? A while back, I realized how many old devices—tablets, laptops, secondary monitors—end up gathering dust in a drawer, even though their screens are in perfect condition. At the same time, I was looking for a simple, private way to turn a screen into a dedicated, free digital photo frame. 🚀 What problem does it solve? Most display tools or digital frames require uploading personal photos to external servers, lack basic automation, or let the screen go into sleep mode right in the middle of the slideshow. Photo Frame solves this by running as a lightweight Progressive Web App (PWA) with 100% local storage. Your photos never leave your device. Plus, it features built-in scheduling (you can set it to run from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, for example) and keeps the screen active automatically. This makes it perfect for home decor, retail displays, or giving a second life to an unused tablet, laptop, or computer. 🔄 How did the approach evolve during development? Focus on privacy and performance: Instead of building a backend to manage uploads, I opted entirely for local storage. This makes the app lightning-fast and completely private. Refining automation: Adding the scheduler was a game-changer. Users shouldn't have to manually start or stop the slideshow every day, so making the state persistent (even after closing the tab) became a top priority. Cross-platform reach: To make it accessible everywhere, I went beyond the web app and released native packages; it’s now available directly on the Microsoft Store and as a Linux package (.deb).
