I've always been hard on myself. The inner critic that catches every loose detail is useful at work, but it doesn't switch off at night. The usual advice, "be nicer to yourself," is about as useful as being told to relax when you can't. So I went looking for something with more behind it and found self-affirmation theory: reflect for two minutes on a value you genuinely hold, often enough that it wears a path, and you become a little steadier under pressure. The apps in this space didn't reflect any of that. They felt cartoony, or guilt-inducing, or empty. I wanted one a thoughtful person wouldn't be embarrassed to open. Dewlight is the result.
