ChatGPT Free vs Plus 24 Differences
Launched this week
A real test of what Free can do and when Plus still wins
I tested ChatGPT Free and Plus across 24 real differences to see whether paying $20 a month still makes sense. Using the same prompts, files, writing tasks, reasoning tests, images, Codex, Deep Research, Work, and upload limits, I compared what each plan can actually do. You’ll see where Free was surprisingly strong, where Plus clearly performed better, which features still require the paid plan, and who can realistically stay on Free.

Hi Product Hunt 👋
This video is a practical comparison of ChatGPT Free vs Plus after Free received unlimited everyday text chats.
I tested both plans with the same prompts, files, and real tasks instead of relying only on feature pages. The comparison covers 24 differences, including:
Models, reasoning, and context limits
Writing, memory, files, voice, and data analysis
Codex, Custom GPTs, Apps, and ChatGPT Work
Image generation and Deep Research
File upload capacity and real workflow reliability
Some results surprised me. Free was fast and performed especially well on several writing and data tasks. Plus became more valuable when I moved into larger workloads, advanced features, stronger grounding, and multi-step Work tasks.
The final test gave both plans the same files and six deliverables. Free finished faster and completed all six, but it also hallucinated one detail and missed two requirements. Plus took longer but produced the cleaner result.
My main takeaway is simple: Free is now enough for many everyday users, while Plus makes more sense when ChatGPT is part of your regular production workflow.
And whichever plan you use, human review should still come before you publish or act on the output.
Curious to hear from you: are you staying on Free, or is Plus still worth $20 for your workflow?
