I've been self-teaching CS from YouTube for two years and kept failing to finish courses — not because the content was hard, but because YouTube's interface is actively hostile to deep studying. The core insight: YouTube optimizes for engagement. Learning requires the opposite. You need an interface that's boring on purpose — that removes every shiny object and keeps you on the lecture. A few decisions I'm proud of: • **Local-first architecture** — no account required, everything in IndexedDB • **KaTeX math rendering** — I needed this for calculus and linear algebra notes, so I built it in • **No telemetry** — not even anonymized analytics.
