What do you think? …

Pratyush, hi! The idea is good. How are the courses get into your database for being rated? Is it automatically? My sincere congratulations on the launch!

@yaroslava Thanks a lot for the response. I am glad you resonated with the idea. The courses in the database are rated using two metrics: 1. A default rating is given to the course based on a mathematical formula of number of likes, number of views, its activity and so on. 2. Different users can give their own rating to a course, just as we do it on IMDb/Kindle and so on.

@pratyush_chaudhary thanks for the explanation. And how are the courses moved to your database?
pratyush chaudhary
@yaroslava We have scripts which uses YouTube open APIs to fetch the courses. There are similar APIs for Coursera/Udemy as well. These APIs also give relevant information about the courses.

An amazing idea! There are tons of trainings and courses online and they all are "the best". Looking forward to see this grow.

@bogomep Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I will for sure work on it.

It is true, the evaluation problem will grow even more with rapid content creation
pratyush chaudhary
@alex_vasylenko Exactly. IMO, the world's approach should not be to create more and more educational content, instead preserve and showcase the best educational content available.

Good idea. How do you want to make it different from ClassCentral?
pratyush chaudhary
@mehdi_cornilliet Thanks a lot for the response. I really appreciate the inputs. I agree that at high level it looks pretty similar to what ClassCentral is doing. However, there are some key differences: 1. ClassCentral only aggregates from known learning platforms like Coursera, Udemy etc. This is because they have well defined APIs. CourseDB takes a step forward and aggregates from one of the most used learning platform, i.e. YouTube. Figuring out YouTube is not straightforward as there are no standalone APIs just for courses. 2. You are always redirected to the original platform through Class Central. In CourseDB, you have an option to continue taking course then and there. 3. CourseDB gives users options to take down notes, and track all their courses at one place. ClassCentral acts more like TripAdvisor which only tells you whether a course is present or not. It does not allow you to engage directly with the course on the platform. However, leaving the differences aside, I would be glad to collaborate with ClassCentral to solve this problem together.

Hi Community, I am working solo on this project for now and am actively looking for collaborators. Please reach out to me if you are also enthusiastic about the project and would like to work together. https://www.linkedin.com/in/thepkc/
