Hey PRoduct hunt — I'm Chris
countRx exists by accident. I was building PillScanner.app, a harm reduction app that uses computer vision to identify ecstasy pills.
While training the model, I noticed it had gotten really good at
segmenting pharmaceutical pills too. Around the same time I learned that pharmacies and vet clinics still count pills by hand hundreds of times a day — and the only alternatives are $6K+ machines.
So I pointed the model at a pill tray and it just worked. YOLO segmentation, runs on-device, no cloud uploads. The hard part was edge cases: overlapping pills, tray hinges triggering false positives, bad fluorescent lighting in actual pharmacies. Currently at 98%+ accuracy.
Vet clinics turned out to be the sweet spot, they dispense in-house, face DEA audit requirements for exact counts, and can't justify enterprise hardware pricing.
Would love to hear from anyone in pharmacy, vet med, or computer vision.
