From a spontaneous ice bath to an app that keeps you accountable and connects plungers
It started during a skydiving trip to Skydive Stockholm. Between jumps, my new friend Roy suggested an ice bath. Hesitant but not going to back down from an agreement, I stepped in. The shock was brutal, the high afterwards was unlike anything I'd felt before.
Back home, I couldn't stop thinking about that feeling. I discovered Wim Hof and his method, cold exposure and breathwork. Diving head first down the rabbit hole, watching hours and hours of content and listening to loads of podcasts, I bought a small inflatable kiddie pool, a freezerload of reusable icecubes, and started experimenting on my own.
Cold plunges became part of my routine, but every single session was still a mental battle. The hardest part was never the cold itself — it was committing to get in. Breathwork before each session helped, but consistency was the real challenge.
I built a dead-simple registration app just for myself. Logging the session, before plunging, without the ability to edit or delete it helped me commit to the plunges. No fancy features, just accountability. And it worked.
That simple tracker evolved slowly into ChillCommit. Hopefully the app can help others as it has helped me.
