Free tool that decodes any QR code and checks its destination against threat-intelligence data for phishing and malware ā before you visit it. Upload a photo or scan live with your camera. No app, no signup, no limit.
Hey Product Hunt š
I built CheckThisQR after reading how fast "quishing" (QR code phishing) has grown ā it's gone from a fringe tactic to nearly 1 in 8 phishing attacks, and most of it works precisely because a QR code hides its destination until it's too late to back out.
Your phone's camera will show you a link preview, but it won't tell you if that link is actually safe ā and most people scan first, think later. CheckThisQR closes that gap:
š· Upload a photo or scan live with your camera
š The code is decoded entirely in your browser ā the image never leaves your device
š”ļø If it's a link, the destination gets checked against real threat-intelligence data
ā You get a plain verdict ā Clear to Scan, Hold & Verify, or Do Not Scan ā before you ever visit the page
It's completely free, no account needed, no scan limit. I built it as an independent project and I'm covering the costs through ads rather than a paywall, because I think a safety tool should be free.
Would love feedback ā especially on false positives/negatives if you throw a weird QR code at it, and any scam patterns you think I should add to the guides section.
