Hey everyone! I built ChatGPT Auth because the current financial model for building AI apps is fundamentally broken. Right now, developers face a brutal choice: either swallow massive OpenAI API bills for heavy user interactions, or force users to manage complex API keys, killing the onboarding user experience. Meanwhile, millions of consumers happily pay $20/month for ChatGPT Plus. They have access to top-tier models, but that utility is stuck inside OpenAI’s standard interface. I wanted a framework-agnostic, drop-in SDK that bridges this divide cleanly. This version (V2) transitions the project from a raw proof-of-concept into a resilient, enterprise-ready infrastructure block. By reverse-engineering the secure device-code OAuth flow and Codex transport protocols, the SDK safely handles authentication entirely on the client’s own billing plan. To make real-world deployment seamless, V2 introduces: - Production Security: Hardened CSP configurations, origin validation, and AES-GCM encryption at rest. - Persistent Session Adapters: Plug-and-play storage layers for PostgreSQL, Redis, and SQLite. - Seamless Streaming: Deep integration with the Vercel AI SDK to stream text and progressive WebP images smoothly. The entire project is 100% open source (MIT license) and fully optimized for Bun 1.3+ and Node runtimes.
