Every call ends with the same job: writing it up. Law firms, brokers and advisers lose hours a day to it, and recording calls opens a compliance minefield. CallNote never records or joins a call. It takes the transcript your phone or meeting system already made, writes the note in your own template, with your sections, terminology and acronyms, then pushes it to your CRM or practice management system. You review it, then lodge and lock it. Around 25 cents a call. Data stays in Sydney.

How did Astra change the scope or ambition of what you built?

Astra is the reason the scope is what it is. Solo, I'd have built the obvious thing and stopped: transcript in, summary out, a tidy UI on top. That's a weekend tool, and it's why most note takers look the same. The parts that actually decide whether a regulated firm can use it are the boring, multi-step ones, and those are what became realistic to take on. So instead of a summariser, what got built is a system of record: - Lodge and lock. Every note is sealed with a SHA-256 checksum, and any later change is a dated amendment rather than a silent edit, enforced with database triggers rather than UI politeness. - An append-only audit log, and row-level security tight enough that a junior broker sees only their own client notes, not the whole firm's. - A template engine where each firm defines its own sections, terminology and acronyms, and the generation prompt is assembled from that rather than hardcoded. - The integration surface lets users connect with anything via API built by Astra

We built CallNote after watching what happens at the end of every call in a law firm. The call finishes, and someone still has to write it up. Multiply that across a team and you're paying real wages for something nobody wants to do, and that gets done from memory hours later, if it gets done at all. The obvious fix is to record the calls. That's where it gets messy. In Australia the consent rules change from state to state, one-party in some, all-party in others, and in a compliance-heavy practice nobody wants to be the test case. So a lot of firms just wear the admin instead. So CallNote doesn't record anything. It never joins your calls and it never touches audio. It takes the transcript your phone system or meeting tool already made, from wherever you want it to come from, and writes the file note from that. For example, Aircall and Dialpad can connect directly, Zoom and Teams come in by email, and there's a public API if you want to wire it up yourself. Two things we care about most: Your template, your words. You set the sections, the terminology and the acronyms your industry actually uses, and every note comes out that way. A conveyancer's attendance note and a mortgage broker's NCCP note look nothing alike, and they shouldn't. Then it goes where it belongs. Push to HubSpot or Clio, Slack or Notion, or literally anywhere you want it to go via API! So the note lands in the file instead of someone's drafts folder. Review it, then lodge it to wherever you want it to go. Any later change is kept as a dated amendment rather than a silent edit. Compare CallNote's cost to what an hour of a solicitor's time costs and the maths gets silly fast.
