BugBnB is a native macOS menu bar app. It watches your Trash — when the bin gets big enough or old enough, five species move in: fruit flies, cockroaches, ants, drain flies and mosquitoes, and they don't fly at random. Ants lay pheromone trails and carry crumbs in a line, cockroaches run the screen edges, mosquitoes bite your idle cursor. Empty the Trash and a little garbage truck tips the bin. Pest control: shoo, spray, or flamethrower. Free, native, no account, no tracking. macOS 11+.

I'm the maker of BugBnB. It's a small macOS menu bar app that watches your Trash — when the bin gets big enough or old enough, five species move in: fruit flies, cockroaches, ants, drain flies and mosquitoes.
It exists because I kept forgetting to take out the trash. Not laziness — the bin just sits there quietly and never says anything, until one day you walk past it and something smells. So instead of trying to remember, I let something else remember for me.
Most of the work went into making the bugs behave like real ones instead of a screensaver. Ants send a scout out first, then lay a pheromone trail so the others can carry crumbs back in a line. Cockroaches run the screen edges and bolt off-screen when startled, and they're bolder at night. Mosquitoes will land on your cursor if you hold it still, and bite it. Empty the Trash and a little garbage truck drives in to tip the bin.
It's free, native, no account, no tracking. One caveat up front: I don't have a paid Apple Developer account, so the app is self-signed — the first time you open it macOS will block it, and you'll need to right-click the app and choose Open. Just once.
