Brush Busters is a free educational kids game from Philips Sonicare that teaches kids how to brush their teeth properly in a fun and unique way. By brushing their own teeth, the kids help the two fictional characters Bjorn and Vicky to brush their teeth as well. Brush Busters also allows you to keep track of your kids brushing behavior while they learn and it’s filled with cool unlockable brushing rewards. As a matter of fact, you can even create your own custom rewards for your kids. @chriswinckel can tell you more!

Hi Product Hunt! Brush Busters was developed together with the awesome developers at ACHTUNG! from Amsterdam! Last week the app was even rewarded with three silver Spin Awards in the categories Design, Content and Game - #proud! Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the app by simply reaching out to me :)

Hey! This looked interesting so I just ran through it with two of my kids - ages 7 and 9. I realize the best experience would be when the app is used in conjunction with the Sonicare toothbrush so I'll stick to my thoughts on the aspects that have nothing to do with that. 1. My kids know they aren't allowed to enter any personal info into any app without permission so when this app asked them for their name they tried to enter a fake one and were thwarted by auto-correct. Not a huge deal but it frustrated them that it changed what they entered. As a parent, I'd prefer you didn't ask for their names at all and perhaps let them choose an avatar or something else instead. 2. Asking to use the microphone really freaked them out. Because they are not Sonicare users they couldn't fathom why the app needed to listen to them. 3. They got agitated at the whole set up process saying, "Just click finish... finish... finish." 4. The language used in the tutorial bit before the "game" could have been more kid friendly. Perhaps "germs" instead of "bacteria" - not sure - it just felt too mature both in language and in presentation. 5. We mistakenly thought the app was similar to dentist-type games they've played before and enjoyed. I did not realize it was to be used AS they were brushing. First, there's no way the iPad (or phone) is going in the bathroom with my kids and water. Just not happening. Second, I do not know what the experience is with a Sonicare, but without one they just couldn't see the fun in it. 6. Finally, after they watched the monster's teeth get scrubbed, they were a bit peeved that the app showed them "one tooth saved." They said, "All that to save one tooth?! Let's go back and scrub again!" (Yay.) But when they tried the app told them they had already brushed today - come back tomorrow. 0_o Sorry, but it was a unanimous vote to delete the app.

@nichediver Thanks for your feedback and for trying Brush Busters with your kids. Sorry to hear they didn't like it and your feedback regarding the UX will for sure be noted down! One of the main insights we're trying to address is to make sure kids brush for the dentist recommended 2 minutes morning and evening as the average brushing time for kids is about 17 seconds. This is also why you cannot brush two times with the same profile right after one another; The routine or habit we're trying to create is 2 minutes brushing, morning and evening. :) Did you experience that your kids were at least brushing a bit longer and perhaps even more thoroughly when using the app? :) Thanks again for your thorough feedback!

@casa_camilla 17 seconds! Wow. Admittedly we did not use this app at the same time as brushing. (Just thinking about having the iPad or phone in the bathroom gives me the heeby-jeebys.) However, it is the first time I've heard, "Let's go back and do it again!" come from their mouths (happily) rather than from my mouth (frustratedly). That scores you some points in my book. ;) We use 2-minute sand timers to keep them brushing. The part I struggle with is getting them to touch everywhere - inside, outside, top - during those two minutes.
