Hey everyone! 👋 I'm Michael, a product designer, and Brain is the notes app I built for myself and then kept building. The short version: it's a notes app you run on your own server. Your notes are plain Markdown files in a folder, committed to git on every save, so you can grep them, back them up, or leave. The editor is quiet and monochrome. Mail and tasks live in the same window, because that's where my day actually happens. The part I'm most excited about: Brain has an MCP server. I connect Claude with OAuth, give it the scopes I want, and it works in my notebook the way I do: writes a page, sorts my inbox, replies from the account I name, moves an attachment into a note, finishes a task. Everything it does shows up in the bell and in an activity log, so it's never a mystery what my agent did while I was away. It's MIT, installs with one command on a 2 GB box, and updates itself from GitHub releases. I'd love to hear what you'd want from a self-hosted notes app, and what would stop you from trying one.
