This newsletter is a mix of Paul's personal journey leaving the corporate world and reflections on working as a freelancer, creator and digital nomad as well as a contemplation our confusing and broken modern relationship with work.
I've been writing a newsletter since 2017 after leaving my job as a strategy consultant in New York. At first I traded my corporate identity for a "freelancer" identity but soon realized that chasing the status and approval of another identity was the same thing I had just tried to escape in the corporate world.
I'm fascinated by our modern relationship with work and exploring how some people are obsessed with work while others despite it completely. As I navigate these challenges I also share my first hand experiences working in the "creator economy" and sharing some of my strategies for how I make money and do things I enjoy without falling into all the traps of burnout and despair that so many entrepreneurial types seem to end up in.
I write because I love it and I see my newsletter as a broader "conversation" with people who are asking the same questions. I have no intentions to build an audience in order to monetize it but instead to build an audience so that we might make each other's lives better. My newsletter has grown a lot in the last year and I'm always looking for ways to improve how I cultivate those relationships with me and with others in the community. More to come in 2021.
I'd be humbled if you let me be part of your substack-filled inbox. I promise to take the responsibility seriously and only deliver you thoughtful, interesting and reflective words.
Thanks for any support!
Paul
