BookBoy: Turn a PDF to an Audiobook - In Any Voice, Right on Your Mac

I’ve always had a habit of reading books. One day I discovered audiobooks, and they completely changed how much I could consume - and, surprisingly, helped me stay focused for longer.

But I kept running into two problems.

Audiobooks can get expensive, especially when you read a lot. I’d often end up searching for free versions, waiting for discounts, or hunting for coupons. And even after buying one, I was stuck with whatever narrator the publisher had chosen.

I kept thinking: Why can’t I just turn the PDFs I already own into audiobooks, in a voice I actually want to listen to?

That idea became BookBoy 🎧📚 (https://bookboy.xyz )

BookBoy is a native Mac app that turns text-based PDFs into audiobooks in almost any voice you choose.

I also didn’t want the usual experience where you feed in a huge book and wait forever for the entire thing to process. With BookBoy, you can **start listening page by page while the rest of the book is being generated**.

And because these can be personal books and documents, I wanted the processing to stay on your machine. Your generated audio lives on your Mac, and you can export it whenever you want to listen on your phone or another device.

I originally built BookBoy because it was something I wanted for myself. Now I’m putting it out there to see whether it’s useful to other readers too.
