Be Candid replaces surveillance-based accountability apps with awareness and connection. Built on research with 4,000 people, it tracks 25 digital behavior categories, detects vulnerability patterns, and gives AI conversation guides to process what's happening with a partner. Includes therapist-designed journaling, pattern detection, and weekly reflections. No VPN, no screenshots, no shame. Free tier available. Pro at $9.99/mo.
I built Be Candid because I have used accountability software like Covenant Eyes, Accountable to you and other for the last 16 years. I've felt the pain of awkward phone calls from an accountability partner when I was flagged incorrectly, heck even being flagged correctly was terrible and not always helpful. The shame was enormous and the prompting they got didn't start the conversation on a great foot. "Hey ____, I got a text that said "Questionable Activity Detected." I've become a licensed mental health counselor since and realized how much this these conversations matter, and how badly these apps were doing at making those conversations genuine, helpful and natural. I built this app for myself first and am now expanding it to others who are tired of paying for tools that don't work at best and make things worse by accident.
The tools I mentioned only help with porn. But I need help before porn is on my mind so this app has 12 categories you can monitor like doom-scrolling, compulsive phone use, ai chatbot conversation/vibe coding addictions, online gambling etc.
Be Candid lets you choose an accountability partner, a friend, partner, or therapist and share only what you're comfortable with.
What makes it different:
You control exactly what your partner sees (we call it the "Observer Effect")
Private journaling with counseling level insights that spot your triggers
Trust points & streaks that make progress feel real
Optional therapist integration — your therapist gets a session prep brief, not your raw data
Desktop awareness mode that encrypts, protects, identifies if you're actively engaging in something you've marked as a category to watch, and send your partner a therapy level conversation prompt factoring in your triggers, not sending them the link of the site you were just on
Everything is free during beta. I'd love your honest feedback — that's kind of our whole thing.
