What do you think? …

Gajus Kuizinas
Nice name, but product description doesn't tell me enough _why_ I should join, let alone pay for joining it.
Andy Bell
@kuizinas Hopefully the about page will 👍 https://array.chat/about/ The main perk being that it's a premium, well-moderated community that won't get overrun by self-promotion and recruiters.
Karl Nislow
@kuizinas @hankchizljaw That about page isn't very informative. I think it's a cool idea but agree that not having insight into the benefits besides vague promises of moderation is a bit tough.

Would it be possible to have a try-out for one month? Perhaps only for vetted freelancers or so? :) I see the value of being able to connect with other freelancers or do some coworking in voice/video channels
Andy Bell
@michiel_mulders1 I get what your saying but vetting fairly would be a lot of work to implement. Right now, it’s growing at a nice pace, so I’ll keep it at that 🙂 People can leave whenever they like too and if they really don’t like it in their first few days: I’ll fully refund them.

How much does it cost to have one guy (presumably the founder) make sure that no spam gets posted? I only ask because although $5 isn't expensive, it's a lot to just try out a community that I know zero about. You could try highlighting some of your members on your landing page.
Andy Bell
@yobroseidon Moderating a community is a lot more than checking for spam 😂
klook
Nice idea but why $5? I don’t know what the community is like or who is in it. Why would I pay $5 to join your community rather than a place like... idk... dncord where it’s free to join or some other community that’s out there. I really don’t see the value in this.
Andy Bell
@klook_ ok doke, it’s not for everyone so that’s all good 🙂

You may want to also add more selling points for example does Array provide access to clients, coaching, make available any shared resources, etc. @hankchizljaw writes: "The main perk being that it's a premium, well-moderated community that won't get overrun by self-promotion and recruiters." This should be emphasized in the about page. As currently written, the frontpage and the about page make the product sound more like a community for frequent victims of harassment (something like a battered wife shelter) rather than a community that won't get overrun with self-promotion and recruiters. As a community manager, I run several large discord channels, in addition to my own social media site. In this context, my feeling is that in practice a code of conduct makes little difference: the main difference is who you put in charge of moderation. So I'd like to read about the moderation team. As a freelancer, my main pain points are: clients, resources, and mentorship. In the context of freelancing, I have only ever encountered codes of conduct as some sort of annoyance. Because you present this as one of your primary differentiating features, my impression is that Array has a poor market fit for freelancers in general. I would encourage you to look into partnerships with the sort of marginalized communities your code of conduct is designed to serve. Branding towards some niche there could be more successful than toward the larger group of freelancers many of whom do not have the sort of problems you seek to address.

The website doesn't really give a new visitor a visual representation or selling point as to why one should join this group. -No chat discussions or screenshots of the members -No list of channels describing the type of conversations and knowledge to be had and gained $5/M to protect from spam and the opportunity to connect with freelancers isn't that bad of a price but honestly, you could be adding free bots that take care of all the spam, scams, and trolls. Cool idea but needs better describing and a better selling approach.
klook
@jonathan_corcoran I agree if a discord community with 600k members can combat spam activity than you can to with free bots and resources
