AppLens AI turns raw APK metadata into a real answer: is this app safe? It combines on-device scanning with Gemini AI to score security risk, flag privacy concerns, and explain each permission in plain language — then exports it all as a professional PDF. The newest feature, Compare Apps, lets you put two apps side-by-side to see which is riskier before you choose. Built for security-conscious users, devs, and IT pros who want clarity, not a permission wall of text. No data collected or shared.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built AppLens AI because every time I checked an app's permissions, I'd see a wall of technical jargon — "READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE", "ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" — with zero context on what it actually meant for me. Permission lists tell you *what* an app can touch, but never *why* that matters or *how risky* it really is.
So I built a scanner that combines on-device analysis with AI to translate that raw metadata into something you can actually act on: a risk score, plain-language explanations of each permission, flagged privacy concerns, and a PDF report you can save or share.
The approach evolved a lot along the way. It started as a simple permission lister, but I kept hitting the same wall — a list isn't a decision. So I layered in AI-generated risk assessment, then added Compare Apps so you can put two apps side-by-side and see which one is actually safer before choosing. And since it's a security tool, it felt important that it not collect or share any data itself — so it doesn't.
Built and shipped solo as a side project alongside my main work — would love your feedback, especially on what would make the risk explanations even clearer. Happy to answer anything! 🙏
