The simplicity here is killer. Any thoughts on adding light collaboration (comments, sharing, etc) while still keeping it this clean? Or is this more of a private tool? Great start!
@clarklab Hey Clark, thanks for the kind words! We really want to avoid the distraction of a collaboration layer and make it all about the images. There's something beautiful and peaceful about not dealing with commenting or even sharing (at the image level, you can always share links to your boards). Also, Dropbox (and Invision!) already provide strong commenting/collab functionality that people can use if they need it. AMB 1 is really designed to provide an unobstructed view of your images. Our next round of updates will focus on allowing people to rearrange image position. We're also working on supporting videos. As always, please keep the ideas and feedback coming!
Nice concept! I'm curious how much of my dropbox folders do you access? Do I need to give you access to all of my folders, or just specific folders where I can select what content is in them (i.e. a photo folder of my choosing, or a folder name that you specify where I will put the photos I want you to have access to? )
@monica_borrell absolutely. Every board you create gets a dedicated URL that you can share (or keep private). Anyone you share the URL with will be able to see your images, even if they don't use Dropbox. You can see all your boards and get their URLs by logging into the AMB 1 website and clicking on them. Hope this helps!
Note: There's an image of what the dashboard looks like (when you're logged in) in the media above. You would just click on one of the boards, like "Kenya Hara" or "Braun" and that would open the board on the web at its dedicated URL. The URL will stay the same even as you add and remove images (via Dropbox).
Edit: It looks like you changed your question a bit. Right now, we are requesting full access. The main reason for this is that we didn't want the AMB 1 folder to be buried in the Apps folder. During testing, once this happened, people forgot it existed. We are exercising best practices in regard to safety and security and we take this topic very seriously. We are also listening very closely to our users and will let them help guide us here.
Just FYI, we've updated AMB 1's permission to only request access to the Apps folder of your Dropbox. We no longer request full access to your Dropbox. Thanks to PH, we received a lot of great support and feedback and decided this was the right approach moving forward.
Thanks again for hunting us @teodorik! We're really excited to be on Product Hunt. With AMB 1, we wanted to create a simple tool to view and share image collections – for inspiration, for fun, or for work. It’s all about the images, so we made the setup and the interface as invisible as possible. Whether you’re building a mood board, making a presentation, or sharing hundreds of your photographs, we hope you’ll appreciate the beauty and simplicity of AMB 1. Let us know if you have any questions or feedback!
