Given that keyboards inherently have access to highly sensitive text, how does Acti handle the balance between understanding context for AI tasks and ensuring absolute privacy? Are the keystrokes processed strictly locally on the device until a specific 'Skill Key' is triggered, or is there some level of continuous cloud sync needed to anticipate user intent?

Hello! I've been using Acti on Android for a while now, and I even got the code from Discord for unlimited skills/shortcuts. It's good, though I have a few notes.
After enjoying the skills and creating some that improved my workflow, I still switched back to Gboard, simply because my typing accuracy is much better there. I've tried to make Acti as close to Gboard as possible in terms of keyboard shape, size, and height, but I still find myself switching back.
Another reason is that I don't always type in English. I sometimes type in my native language or a transliterated version of it, and that's somewhere Acti struggles.
Apart from skills, I think an emphasis on AI learning my typing habits would make me prefer Acti, especially if it could improve transliterated typing, which I sometimes have issues with on Gboard as well. For now, I may just be too used to Gboard, so I keep going back to it.
I've always thought keyboards were massively underutilized as a system surface. They occupy a huge amount of screen time across every app, yet almost nobody has treated them as programmable environments until recently.
@tobias_lau Completely agree! The keyboard has more consistent screen time than almost any single app on your phone, yet it's been treated as a static utility for over a decades. Part of it was platform restrictions (no network access by default, sandboxed, etc.), but a lot of it was just nobody reframing what the surface could be. Once you start seeing it as "the place where intent already forms" instead of "the place where letters get typed," the programmability angle becomes obvious in hindsight

This is a really smart wedge. The keyboard is one of the few surfaces that already exists across every app, so putting actions there makes a lot of sense. Excited to try the Skill Keys idea.

As someone who has worked on mobile products before, I honestly think the hardest part here is reliability. Keyboard interactions need to feel instant or users lose trust immediately. Pretty impressed by how responsive ACTI already feels in beta.

Most AI tools want another tab open. ACTI feels much lighter
@zhangzhang That's exactly the shift we were going for! The "open another tab, copy, paste, switch back" loop is such a heavy tax on actually getting things done. If you end up building any Skills, would love to see what you come up with!
