When learning new words in a romance language, it's not sufficient enough to learn just the word, you must also learn the gender, and respective article, so that your sentences make sense. Accord makes it easier for English-speakers to learn new words and memorize their gender by utilizing Tinder-swipe mechanics to match the word to the respective gender. This beats flashcards which can often omit the article and other language learning apps that skim over this part of learning new words.

Bonjour à tous! The inspiration for Accord came as I began learning French and I noticed that the articles (and subsequent gender) were much more difficult to discern than in the other language I had previously learned, Spanish. In Spanish, the rules for gender is much simpler, most nouns ending in "o" are masculine, while most ending ending in "a" are feminine. However, with French, it's more nuanced. Accord began initially with just French, to help with my use case, and Spanish, due to the amount of people learning this language. Once I showed it to some early users, they suggest Portuguese and Italian. Accord now supports Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese. My goal with this app is to make it funner and easier for language learners to learn new words so that they can speak better. Because remember, there's a big difference between "Je cherche mon mari" and "Je cherche ma mari". Would love your feedback and suggestions! Cheers

Did you know these words that have dual meaning in Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese?

Romance languages are notoriously difficult for English-speakers to learn because of the gender of each noun. Not only do you have to learn a new word such as "libro" but you also have to remember that it's "el libro" which is also a "masculine" noun in Spanish, meaning that any adjective you attach to it has to be in masculine form as well.
What you might not have known, is that some words change meaning based on the article/gender that you use with it.

Here are some examples:
Spanish

el capital = financial capital/money la capital = capital city
el orden = order/sequence la orden = religious order or command
el cura = priest la cura = cure/treatment
