I did what every adult beginner does: bought premium on the big chess sites, ran the lessons, reviewed every lost game. And hit a wall. Their review tells you "this was a mistake, the right move was Nf5" — but never WHY. What's the idea behind Nf5? What's the plan? Which of my pieces is bad and what am I even fighting for? An answer key is not a coach. So — chess YouTube. Great content, hundreds of hours of it. A month later I realized it was eating every evening and my rating had barely moved. Watching chess is not training chess. That's when the developer in me woke up. I wanted a trainer that takes you by the hand: explains every position in plain words, builds training out of YOUR OWN mistakes, and grows your understanding — not just your puzzle streak. I couldn't find one, so I've spent the last months building it. That's 99chess.
