The tab should be updated only once while opening. That would be enough. Or controlled updates to the DOM would be great! Anything that doesnt take up 30% CPU would be neat!

Pros:

Decent looking and makes me serious

Cons:

The CPU usage is very very high for an empty tab mainly because there are so many DOM updates happening!

After your review, I checked CPU usage on multiple systems. I'm sure that it doesn't use 30% of your CPU. At max 20% maybe. Check this snapshot if you don't believe me -

I just put together a new release which blocks the DOM updating if the tab is out of focus. So, basically this issue invalid now

Each time I open a new tab, it reminds me how fast the time is moving! Definitely motivates me to be more productive!

Pros:

Fast. Neat and Motivating

Cons:

No option to set fixed background? I personally find some gradients too colourful
