Xook is a Kickstarter project to connect your existing home security system to a cloud service to provide alarm notifications by voice, text and email for $1 a month.
Xook works by reprogramming your existing alarm system to call their cloud service with VOIP. Alarm systems only make a few calls a year, so Xook can monitor thousands of homes with just a few servers in the cloud. During the Kickstarter project, Xook is offering home security monitoring for life to help bootstrap the project.
Pros:Great if you have a home security system but do not want to pay $20 to $30 a month for monitoring.
Cons:Only works if you already have a home security system and doesn't provide fire alarm monitoring
