Wordd

Quickly look up vocabulary, abbreviations, acronyms, slang

TLDR - Wordd is a simple iOS app for quickly looking up everyday vocabulary and slang words! We live in an internet age where new abbreviations are becoming popular up on a near daily basis making it hard to keep up to date with the latest lingo. Wordd is designed to aid you in your pursuit to be hip and in the know!

Hello Product Hunt Frens! Almost two years ago when I was first learning iOS development, my very first personal project was this simple dictionary app called Wordd. Today, after weeks of completely rebuilding the app from the ground up, I'm excited to announce the launch of version 2.0! I get that the app is still pretty basic and that it's not going to change any lives, but nonetheless, it was a fun and fulfilling personal journey to revisit this app after so long. Feel free to check it out. It's free to download on the app store and has an optional $0.99 Upgrayedd to unlock all in-app features including any new ones added in the future. Upgrayedd, just like Wordd, has two D's for a double dose of that pimpin' - Shout out to all the Idiocracy fans out there! Lol

@andy_feng Congrats on launching! How does one go about building a dictionary app - do you have to reference a bunch of different dictionaries to ensure you haven't missed any words out?

@abadesi Hi Abadesi, there are a ton of awesome dictionary API's out there. The main one I use is called wordsAPI (https://www.wordsapi.com/), I use the paid version via MashApe but there are other free alternatives out there (https://market.mashape.com/ has a huge selection). Another main one used in the app is Urban Dictionary's public API. Also, SAT words are imported from http://www.freevocabulary.com/. Hope this helps! Thanks for the support!

@vladkorobov lol appreciate the enthusiasm! but tbh, if you're already on the web, I'd assume simply using Google would be more convenient :p
