Where Was I? doesn’t just remember which apps were open. It captures the full context of your work, including browser tabs, screenshots, notes, window positions, project status, and your next step. Everything stays local on your Mac, so you can return hours or days later and quickly understand exactly where you left off.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Where Was I? because I kept running into the same problem: I’d stop working on something, return hours or days later, and spend the first few minutes trying to remember what I had open, what I was doing, and what came next.
Whether you’re heading to dinner, switching between work and a side project, or jumping between different projects, it’s surprisingly easy to lose track of where you left off.
Most workspace tools remember your windows or tabs. I wanted something that remembered the context around the work too.
Where Was I? lets you save a checkpoint with your open apps, browser tabs, screenshots, notes, window positions, project status, and next step. When you return, you can quickly see where you left off and restore what you need to get going again.
It’s a native Mac app, everything stays stored locally on your Mac, and I built it as a solo project.
The GPT-6 Astra Challenge gave me a reason to push the idea from an experiment into something I could actually ship. I used Astra during development to work through implementation problems, debug some tricky macOS behaviour, think through edge cases, and refine parts of the workflow.
I’m curious how other people deal with this problem. Sometimes I only need to step away for a few hours before I’m wondering, “Wait… what was I doing again?”
Would love to hear how you handle context switching — or whether you just accept the few minutes of staring at your screen trying to reconstruct everything.
