Hey everyone 👋, excited to finally launch Walking the World today! I built this app after my amazing wife and I traveled to Barcelona and Prague in May 2024. While exploring Europe, we discovered Rick Steves' audio tour app and absolutely loved it—honestly, it was a game-changer. Rick’s app was great because it empowered us as travelers to: -Tour whenever we wanted. -Enjoy tours completely for free. -Explore with each other instead of random groups. -Trust we'd always get quality content. This was perfect for us, as flexibility was a priority and traditional group tours were expensive and unpredictable. But here's the thing—Rick Steves doesn't cover everywhere. I immediately saw an opportunity: What if I could create engaging, podcast-style walking tours for all the amazing places his app didn't cover? To prove out this idea, I decided to build an MVP focused on a single destination first. I chose Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto) for several reasons: -Strong dollar makes it affordable for US travelers right now. -Massive city with tons of walkable neighborhoods. -Hugely popular among English-speaking tourists. -Rick Steves hadn't included it yet (jackpot!). So, after almost quitting 20+ times (😅), here's the result—an offline-first audio tour app designed for curious travelers who love flexibility, affordability, and a great experience. I hope you enjoy exploring Tokyo (and soon, beyond!) as much as we enjoyed building this. Thanks for your support!
