Why I built Walk in the Parquet:
I wanted a lightweight, visual, and interactive way to explore them without writing endless SQL or spinning up heavy Python scripts to run ETL tools. I built a Tauri‑based desktop app that lets you visualize, query, and analyze Parquet data with zero friction. Everything is local, secure, etc. There shouldn't be a single network call - and if there is you can call / text me / whatever.
In terms of features, you can set this up so it's the native browser opener for any parquet files. You get instant previews, clickable schema trees, and inline querying - no setup, no hassle.
I’m pleased with the UI turned out as well as the fast performance. Honestly, I've found at work that i use this and the SQL engine to query my data and ensure that things are appearing as I want. Building on Tauri was a win (in addition for me getting to learn a lot of new info). Basically, native speed with modern UX. Excited to have you try it out!
