So let me introduce what this is:
Concept:
Most of us had a hard disk at some point in our lives, but due to cheap computer storage, pocket cloud storage (google drive, dropbox, etc), we dont really have hard disks with convenient collections anymore. At the same time, there's a tonne of content with us: video, audio, documents, files, etc that we dont mind sharing with the world. Virtualdrive is a platform to help create that collection and have it accessible anywhere, anytime.
How's this different from youtube, vimeo, putlocker, movies8, etc etc etc:
1. All of them are just video, while virtualdrive can have any type of content (pdf's, audio, you name it) (but currently I've just tried & tested video; you are welcome to connect with me and discuss your thoughts)
2. This is community driven, so more reliable & powerful in the longer run; and that much more variety in content type
3. And a whole bunch of features are/can/should/will be implemented to keep the content & content types organised, let users take credit, share with the world and everything in between (happy to get on skype/hangouts and have a chat)
How's this different from torrents:
1. Rather than torrents, it's a bit like dc++ we had in college that enables college-mates to share stuff from each other; similar to that, a community of sharers and borrowers of digital content, a digital barter if you will..
2. There's nothing illegal about this; we are really promoting the concept of sharing; there's a tonne of stuff that can be shared without violating copyright etc and second; with properly organised content, risky stuff will be isolated
3. Again, there is a tonne of features & product roadmap that can be implemented that can soon be make it seem that such comparisons feel surface-level (again, do connect personally, will be happy to chat)
Additional details:
1. This is just a bare-bones or an MVP type implementation of the concept, to get people to try it out and see what people had to say; actually I've added a few cool features to it in my local version, just haven't pushed the code; wanted to see people's idea on the core, rather than bias you with what I think fits well (so, encourage feedback, encourage getting in touch)
So, check it out guys, add a couple of videos to it, check it out and tell me what you think either here or on mail (email is in the contact section of the app)
Thanks guys :-)
