Hey Product Hunt! I’m Riyo, the maker of Virelo.
I built Virelo to make local video collections feel as enjoyable to browse and watch as a streaming service—without uploading your files anywhere.
You can use it directly in your browser with no signup or installation, or self-host with npx virelo.
A few highlights:
• Swipe through Shorts from your own collection.
• Build playlists, reorder your queue, and resume where you left off.
• Reduce sudden volume differences with automatic volume leveling.
• Self-host with user accounts, library permissions, and automatic metadata and artwork.
Virelo is free and open source.
I’d especially love feedback on library navigation and mobile playback. What feels natural, and what gets in your way?
Thanks for taking a look!
Does it play camera files like ProRes, or only what the browser can decode, like H.264 MP4s?
Congrats Riyo! Local-first and open source for a video library is exactly what I'd want for the family archive that sits on a disk nobody browses. Two questions: for the metadata and artwork, where does it get them from when the files are home videos with no title anywhere? And the volume leveling, is it done on the fly in the browser or precomputed when the library is scanned?
