Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Clifford, the creator of Vidi — a macOS video player designed to feel truly native.
After sharing early builds, the most common feedback I got was simple: "it feels like a real Mac app".
Most video players on macOS are powerful, but many rely on cross‑platform layers that can’t fully take advantage of Apple’s display and audio systems. Vidi is built differently — it uses Apple’s native display pipeline alongside FFmpeg for decoding, allowing it to deliver accurate HDR, great color on Mac displays, lower CPU usage, and better battery life. Using Apple’s audio engine also made it possible to build a comprehensive audio suite while keeping sound quality front and center.
Vidi is fully designed around macOS 26’s Liquid Glass aesthetic, with a clean, fluid UI that stays out of your way and feels at home on modern macOS.
It also includes a thoughtful custom Picture‑in‑Picture experience, immersive audio features like Spatial Audio on any headphones, and small quality‑of‑life details that add up over time.
Vidi is my take on what a modern macOS video player should feel like. I’d love to hear your thoughts 🍿
